Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club – 20 September 2025
Written by Andy Brown

Today’s Kapiti Cup Race 7 was sailed at a different venue than usual, with competitors taking to the water at the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club. Conditions were lively, with a blustery nor’wester of 25–30 knots testing both skippers and boats. With the breeze up, C rigs were the order of the day, and those who managed their gear well were rewarded.

The fleet was evenly matched, with four Kapiti Club boats lining up against four Wellington Club boats. The racing was tight, and the challenging conditions provided valuable experience and a real test of skill.

This event served as an excellent build-up to the Oceania Championships, which will be held in Pegasus, Canterbury, and promises to be the largest gathering of radio sailing competitors in New Zealand in recent years. Over 65 competitors from New Zealand, Australia, Spain, the United States, China, Ireland, Chile, Canada, and France are set to take part.

We are also proud that the Race Officer for the Oceania Championships will be Paul Davis from our own club, ensuring the event will be in experienced and capable hands.

Overall, today’s Kapiti Cup racing was a great showcase of competitive spirit and seamanship under pressure, setting the stage nicely for the international regatta to come.
