Yesterday we advised that the EBYMBC Junior and Youth Sailing Programme was a finalist in the 2019 Wellington City Community Awards.
The awards ceremony was held on 31 July with 86 different volunteer organisations from the Wellington City region nominated.
We are really proud to advise that:
The EBYMBC Junior & Youth Programme
Runner-up in the Sport & Leisure category
This award is fantastic recognition of the huge amount of hard work put in by David Nalder and his team. It also shows the impact our activities are having with the local Community.
The category was won by an organisation called Lazy Sneakers who travel around the city collecting second hand sports shoes and donating them to those unable to afford them. An incredibly deserving winner, especially when you consider the organisation is run by a 14 year old!
The overall supreme winner for the evening was an organisation called Good Bitches Baking who are on a mission to make Aotearoa the kindest place on earth. Over 500 volunteers across the Wellington region bake and deliver home-baked treats every week to places where there are people having a hard time. Knowing someone cared enough to make them a treat can help people get through the toughest of days.
I also want to congratulate Sailability Wellington for finishing runner-up in the Sport & Leisure category in the Porirua City Community Awards, again it is great to see an organisation that we work closely with being acknowledged as well.
Finally, as noted previously we would like to say thank you to whoever nominated the programme, we still have no idea who you are, but it is really appreciated!
