Access Dinghies

Access dinghies are manufactured in Melbourne, Australia. Their design incorporates features which make it possible for anyone, regardless of ability, to sail. The features include:

• Roller reefing system, enabling the sailor to adjust the size of the sail to suit various conditions while under way
• Ballasted centreboard, ensuring the dinghy is difficult to capsize
• Innovative concave hull shape which promotes stability
• Sailor(s) seated low down in the boat, thus providing additional stability
• Controls sited in front of the sailor(s), ie joystick and sheets

The sense of security offered by these boats helps people gain confidence in their ability to learn and use the new skills needed to sail.

We currently have three Access dinghies in our fleet. They are the:

2.3 Single Seater – This boat is sailed by one person. It has wide side decks, comfortable seat and good support for the sailor.
2.3 Wide – These boats can be sailed by two people and is ideal for instructing new comers how sail and to help them gain confidence before going solo. They can also be sailed by one person.
303 Wide – The 303 is ideal for those sailors who wish to take their sailing a step further. This boat has mainsail and jib. It can be sailed by one or two people.

Affiliation

We have chosen to be affiliated to Evans Bay Yacht & Motor Boat Club. Together we can create the opportunities that will help people wishing to sail realise their goals and also give them the best opportunities to participate in sailing activities.
EBYMBC has an active Learn to Sail programme with YNZ Club Instructors and Assistant Instructors. Some of these instructors will be helping those who wish to, to learn to sail.

Its facilities incorporate a hall, lounge, bar(s), kitchen and dining room, toilets, changing and showering facilities. The toilets are not accessible for wheelchairs.
Also available are boat storage, and quick slip and side slipping for keelers and launches.
